We will have lunch shortly after the highest ski station in North Africa. Then we join the beautiful valley, Tachddir, in the High Atlas, with a splendid view of the mountain. Afterwards, an easy descent back to Tachdirth for the night. Walking Time: 6 hours
After breakfast, we set off down the Assif Imnane valley, passing through several Berber hamlets. We then hike up to the Tizi n’ageursiwal (2000m).
Once through the pass, we go down a winding mule tracks leading to the village of Aguersiwal where we will have lunch. After lunch, we set off up the valley of Matat, for about an hour. Walking Time: 6 hours
From Matat, you will set off on a 6-hour trek out of the Matat Valley and into the Azzadene Valley. Along the way you will pass Tizi Oudite at 2,250m, the Ait Aissa Village, Tizi oussm Village and into Azib n’Tansoult. We will overnight in the Azib n Tamsoult mountain refuge at 2300m.
Today involves a fairly stiff climb through Ighouliden waterfalls out of the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge over the Aguelzim Mountain pass at 3,560m. Lunch will be taken with spectacular views over the Atlas Mountain Range. Overnight in the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut) where you’ll likely be sharing a bunk room with other trekkers all tackling Toubkal early the next morning. Walking Time: 6 hrs
Day 6: Toubkal refuge – Toubkal Summit – Toubkal Refuge
Today, depending on weather conditions, we make an very early start for the optional attempt for the summit of North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal (4167m).
This is a fairly strenuous, though non-technical ascent, involving some scrambling over steep scree slopes. The views from the high ridge are superb. Once we have gained the summit of Jebel Toubkal, we will return by the same path to our base near the Toubkal refuge. Walking Time: 8 hrs
We return on foot to Imlil this morning, then drive back to Marrakesh. Upon arrival, we have some free time to explore the city’s colourful souks and perhaps take a stroll around its celebrated Djemma El Fna Square. A feast for the senses, this square is a wonderful confusion of noise and colour, where you will find the streets alive with storytellers, musicians, jugglers and water-sellers: the perfect place to haggle for some last minute presents, or just sit at a cafe and watch the spectacle unfold before you.
