8-days Desert, Gorges & Kasbah Tour | Morocco Adventurers

Jemaa el-Fnaa Square in MarrakechDay 1: Arrival in Marrakesh

You will be picked up at the Marrakesh airport by our team to escort you in our mini buses to the riad or hotel where you can refresh prior to dinner. Here you will enjoy the opportunity to get to know your fellow guests and team as we dine together. After dinner (each evening), you will be offered a briefing for the next day to ensure you are always prepared.

dadesgorgeDay 2: Marrakesh to Dades Gorge

Today we drive through striking landscapes to Dades Gorge, an awe-inspiring valley which stretches from the High Atlas Mountains to the Jebel Saghro range in the south. Spanning some 2090 km across Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

The Atlas Mountain is an impressive sight to behold and can lay claim to the highest peak in North Africa, Mount Toubkal. On our way to Dades Gorge we will pass medieval kasbahs – built by the original inhabitants of northern Africa, the Berbers, and stop at a vantage point where we can take in spectacular views of snow-capped peaks while enjoying a cup of sweet minted tea. Overnight in Dades Gorge (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Todra GorgeDay 3 Todra Gorge – Tinghir

After breakfast, we head east to discover the stunning Todra Gorge with its 300m high cliffs. Created millions of years ago, the striking gorge snakes its way through the rugged mountain range. The final 600m of the Todra Gorge are spectacular as the canyon narrows to a flat stony track as little as 10m wide in places with sheer and smooth rock walls up to 160m high on each side. We will have lunch at a village co-operative where hundreds of handmade Berber rugs, kilims and carpets are displayed and offered for sale.

The afternoon is free to explore the gorge, walk through the Palmerie. If you’re feel active, try rock climbing (dependent upon weather conditions, book and pay locally). Overnight in Todra Gorge (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Camel Trekking in SaharaDay 4: Camel trek in the Sahara

This morning we cross the mountainous landscapes of Jebel Saghro, before stopping for lunch and a swim. After lunch, we will travel down to the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, the starting point of our adventure into the mighty Sahara Desert!

Traveling by camel we will make our way across the dunes, passing wave upon wave of orange dunes that roll out into the distance, with endless patterns of light and shade creating the most spectacular panoramic views. Overnight at our simple Berber camp, we will enjoy dinner and a night under the stars. (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

draavalleyDay 5: Ouarzazate through Draa Valley

After a spectacular sunrise over the desert, we will make our way back to our frontier post where there will be time to freshen up before continuing on our adventure.

Our next stop will be the verdant Draa Valley, brimming with natural, historical and archaeological wonders. En route we will pass through many small villages, where a lack of modernity makes it appear as if time has stood still. Women are fully veiled while washing their clothes on the riverbanks and the watchful men seem distant, unaccustomed to foreign visitors.Following the route of 1000 kasbahs, we will continue our journey on to Ouarzazate. Sitting at an altitude of 1160m in the middle of a barren plateau, Ouarzazate lies at the cross roads of all routes going north, south, east, and west, making it a key trading post in both ancient and modern times. Today, the area is mostly populated by Berber people, who were constructors of the numerous fortified kasbahs and dwellings for which the region is famous for.

After hotel check-in enjoy, enjoy free time for the rest of the day. Overnight in Ouarzazate (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Ait-Ben-Haddou_in_Morocco - CopyDay 6: Ouarzazate – Ait Benhaddou – Marrakech

This morning, there will be a chance to visit the famous film studio that produced classic movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, Alexander the Great and The Last Temptation of Christ.

Afterwards, we will make our way to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, a fortified city built for defense purposes high on a hill with a bubbling steam within it shadows. This stunningly well preserved medieval city is a true highlight of our tour. Famously used as a backdrop in the film ‘Gladiator’, its beauty is unrivaled by any other fortified village in south Morocco. We will make our way back to Marrakesh for the evening. Overnight in Marrakech (Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

marrakechDay 7: Open City Tour

Today is your chance to really get a feel for Marrakesh. In the morning, a guided tour will take you around the old part of the city. Meandering through the rose-coloured walls of the medina and winding streets in the bustling souks, we will arrive at the focal point of the city – Djemaa el Fna, an exuberant gathering and market place.Full of colour, spicy aromas and traders, Djemaa el Fna is best seen in the evening when it’s overflowing with food stalls, dancers, acrobats, fortune tellers, musicians and henna artists. Towering over all this is the iconic Koutoubia mosque, the tallest building in the city and a reminder of the importance of Islam to the lives of the city’s residents.
